'Price of freedom', 2022
Ukrainian women have been wearing large beautiful elaborate flower crowns on their wedding day for centuries. On February 24th, 2022 they were forced to trade their flowers for guns to protect their freedom, independence, and their country. The idea behind the painting came to Natasha after she read a story about a Ukrainian couple, who married on the day Russia invaded Ukraine and hours after the wedding ceremony went to a local defense center to help fight against the invasion. "As artists, says Natasha, we have a heightened sensitivity to the world. It's our duty to record the events around us to find hope, raise spirits, and create a permanent record for future generations".
Natasha dedicates her painting to all incredible, strong, and beautiful women of Ukraine. May they continue to be strong and may this war end tomorrow.
